Home-model identity

This machine is Bally's home-model Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, manufactured in January 1977. Catalog records distinguish it from the separate Bally machine dated 1975 in the same title group.

Technical documentation identifies Captain Fantastic as model 614-2000 in Bally's Series II home-pinball group. Bally developed these machines as non-coin-operated games for the home market.

Gameplay

The instruction card specifies play for one to four players and a five-ball game. Completing the four top rollover lanes awards 25,000 points and lights the lower rollovers for extra-ball action.

Targets 1 and 2 award a double bonus, while completing targets 1, 2 and 3 awards a triple bonus. Extra balls are awarded at 100,000, 200,000 and 300,000 points.

Series II hardware

The Series II platform uses a Mostek 3870 processor, an electronic score display, switch and lamp matrices, and logic-controlled solenoids for the ball return, slingshots and thumper bumpers.

Bally's service manual identifies a distinguishing transformer arrangement for model 614-2000, with five circuit breakers: two rated at 3.9 amps and three rated at 2.5 amps.
