Stern Pinball carries forward the Stern family's long arcade and pinball lineage. Gary Stern helped lead Data East Pinball in 1986, continued through the Sega Pinball era, and purchased the pinball division in 1999 to form Stern Pinball. The company kept commercial pinball alive through the lean 2000s and later expanded the modern market with LCD-era games, Insider Connected, Pro/Premium/LE edition structures, and a large global distributor network.
