A Broadway pinball theme
The machine is based on the Broadway show of the same name. Its Union Jack features represent scenes from the play, and the music played during each feature corresponds to that scene.
A contemporary trade report described the game as containing 21 songs with vocals by original Broadway cast members.
Designed for spectacle
The standard Data East-width playfield has three flippers, dual ramps and spinners, a dot-matrix display, a magic mirror and flipper blinders. The mirror spells TOMMY and can light the machine's multiball, while the blinders cover the flippers during selected features.
Union Jack features and multiball
The rules guide documents 12 Union Jack features, including Christmas, Cousin Kevin, Holiday Camp, Captain Walker, Smash the Mirror, Acid Queen, There's a Doctor, Tommy Scoring and Sally Simpson. Collecting all 12 starts the Pinball Wizard feature.
Tommy multiball is lit by spelling TOMMY at the mirror. The guide also documents staged jackpots, Tommy letter awards, super jackpots and a blind multiball phase.
